Common postural problems:
If your work means you regularly sit for long periods of time or drive long distances you may experience discomfort in your hips, shoulders, neck, spine.
A common posture for those of us with desk based jobs is a rounded upper back and rolled forward shoulders which make sitting up straight hard work and uncomfortable. Phone users, buggy pushers and avid cyclists may also be prone to these postural problems.
A common postural problem for those of us that spend a lot of time standing is an exaggerated curve in the lower (lumbar) spine which results in lower back pain. The misery of lower back pain is that it makes you want to move less; perhaps you don’t walk the dog as far you’d like to or you don’t run around with your children or grand children in the park. Maybe it stops you getting up and down from the floor so easily and perhaps your back hurts even when you’re lying in bed.
Pilates exercises performed correctly will rebalance your body; strengthening your abdominals and back muscles, enabling you to stand tall.
